Renewable energy is the future

As a telecommunications company, the majority of the A1 Telekom Austria Group’s CO2 emissions are caused by energy requirements – in particular the electricity demand of the networks. Therefore, one of the most important measures is to drive efficiency and to reduce energy requirements wherever possible. The A1 Telekom Austria Group is therefore pursuing the approach of increasing efficiency, stabilizing or reducing energy requirements and at the same time lowering CO2 emissions. The network design should be as ecological as possible, depending on the general conditions of the different locations.

For this reason, the A1 Telekom Austria Group is increasingly purchasing electricity from renewable sources such as sun, water or wind – the A1 Telekom Austria Group currently obtains 43% (as of 2019) of its electricity from renewable energy sources. On the other hand, the A1 Telekom Austria Group also produces its own electricity from renewable energy sources with photovoltaic parks in the Gomel region (Belarus) and Aflenz (Austria). In addition, more than 100 mobile phone stations within the Group run with solar or/and wind energy or with hydrogen fuel cells.
