The A1 Telekom Austria Group seeks to ensure that resources, which are already in use, can be used for as long as possible – without physical or chemical transformation. This includes the reassembly of disassembled equipment in other subsidiaries of the A1 Telekom Austria Group, thus extending the equipment’s lifespan. The subsidiaries in Austria and Bulgaria also reuse recovered equipment, which is functional and corresponds to the current technical state of the art. Defective or returned modems and media boxes are thoroughly checked for their technical functionality, repaired or replaced and cleaned if necessary. If old devices or equipment cannot be used any further, they are dismantled at their locations, systematically separated into fractions such as printed circuit boards, copper, iron or sheet metal, etc., and professionally recycled.
Furthermore, the A1 Telekom Austria Group offers a mobile phone recycling program in almost all its markets. This gives customers the opportunity to return old devices free of charge and thus contributes to the conservation of resources. Through this correct disposal, 70 to 80% of the old devices contents can be recycled by specialists and used again as raw materials. In this way, valuable materials such as gold, silver, palladium or copper return back into the economy, developing a circular economy
